Himalayan Field School (HFS) is a two-week long international residential school jointly organized by University of Sydney (UoS), Law faculty and Kathmandu School of Law (KSL). It is a credit course for the law students from UoS, an apt platform for inter-cultural experience sharing for students from both KSL and UoS. Since 2010 HFS has been a highlight program of KSL. HFS 2018 was recently conducted from 22nd Jan-2nd Feb. The sessions were conducted in various national and international organizations including UNDP, NHRC, ILO, Shakti Samuha, CWISH and various prominent institutions. A team of 29 students form UoS was led by Prof. David Kinley, Chair in Human Rights Law, UoS. The discussions incorporated issues ranging from Human Rights, gender justice, rights of Migrant workers, child labour, criminal justice system of Nepal and likewise.
Apart from these formal sessions and site-visits, the participants got an opportunity to understand the ground reality of Nepalese society through their four days’ intensive learning in Melamchi, where they had direct interaction with the local people and discussions with students and teachers from schools in Melamchi. A truly one-of-a-kind international collaboration between two pioneer institutions of Nepal and Australia, we look forward to the next HFS.
