Kathmandu School of Law (KSL) maintains
sound academic and professional collaboration
with many national and international institutions,
organizations and universities.
In the year 2006, Memorandum
of Understanding (MoU) was signed with
University School of Law and Legal Studies,
New Delhi to develop academic partnership
to strengthen quality education and promotion
of Human Rights in the respective countries.
Similarly, MoU was signed with Bangladesh
Legal Aid Service Trust, Bangladesh and
Legal Aid Services, West Bengal to provide
legal aid to the indigent citizens of
Nepal, Bangladesh and India in the respective
countries.
KSL participated in many international
academic programs and invited experts
and faculty from a multitude of nations.
KSL strengthened its relationship with
Tokiwa University by sending its three
students, upon their invitation, to participate
in the 6th Asian Post Graduate Course
on Victimology organized by Tokiwa University,
Japan in association with the World Society
of Victimology. Students of KSL took part
in Inter School Workshop on Gender Equality
and Leadership, upon invitation of Sakshi,
a non governmental organization of India.
Similarly, KSL renewed its close relationship
with Dhaka University and Guru Gobind
Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi
by sending its students to participate
in the 6th Human Rights Summer School
Program in Dhaka and inviting students
from the latter to participate in 2nd
Winter Residential School Program on “Socio
Economic Rights and Good Governance”
organized by KSL.
Participation of KSL in the First Henry
Dunant Memorial Regional Moot Court Competition
for South Asia organized by the Indian
Society of International Law (ISIL) and
International Committee of the Red Cross
(ICRC) and being awarded by Gold Medal
have been instrumental in enhancing its
international reputation.
This year KSL joined hands with many new
national and international organizations.
Planete Infants in cooperation with KSL
organized a Cross-Cutting Review Access
to Justice Program at KSL. Similarly,
KSL and CeLRRd jointly organized three-day
training program on Implementation of
Fair Trial Rights for participants from
National Human Rights Commission, Office
of the Attorney General, Nepal Bar Association
and KSL. Likewise, KSL and Conscious Media
Forum jointly organized one day seminar
on Social Aspect of Legal Dimension of
HIV/AIDS and Concern of Human Rights to
celebrate the International HIV/AIDS Day.
KSL also works as an implementing body
of different promotional programs that
come under democracy, human rights and
rule of law, funded by national and international
organizations. Embassy of Denmark has
provided financial support to KSL to run
Peace Project with a view to contribute
to the consolidation of democracy and
peace building process by launching a
rich resource based platform for politico-constitutional
discourse. Support of EU for the Establishment
of PNRC, expertise provided by DIHR to
prepare Legal Aid Manual and establishment
of National Legal Aid Network, and solidarity
expressed by OHCHR, NHRC, Nepal Police
to strengthen collaborative approach to
run the legal aid program are some of
the noteworthy achievements of this year.
KSL holds a practice of organizing series
of Talk Programs with dignitaries and
professionals from reputed national and
international institutions as a part of
its regular academic activities. In the
past, we had an honor to have American
Ambassador and representatives of Danish
Institute for Human Rights to address
the program. This year we had an opportunity
to invite British Ambassador Mr. Keith
Bloomfield, Charge d’ Affairs of
Embassy of Denmark Mr. Gert Meinecke,
representative from Office of the United
Nation’s High Commissioner for Human
Rights Mr. Ian Martin, First Secretary
and Political Advisor of the Delegation
of the European Commission to Nepal Mr.Guy
PS Banim in the talk programs.
Similarly, KSL continued its practice
of organizing special events by inviting
professors, experts, academicians, law
faculties, diplomats and dignitaries from
home and abroad. This time Prof. Dr. Nomita
Aggarwal, Dean, Delhi University; Prof.
M. Afzal Wani, Dean, University School
of Law and Legal Studies; Justice Naimuddin
Ahmed, Former Justice, Supreme Court,
Bangladesh; Mr. August Von Born Millard,
Team Leader, Democracy and Governance,
USAID/Nepal; Mr. Toran Bahadur Karki,
the then-Vice Chancellor, Purbanchal University;
Mr. Richard Miles, Contemporary Senior
Advisor, Nepal Police Development Office,
DFID; and Mr. Hem Raj Gyawali, Chairperson,
Kantipur Publication were invited as key
note speaker in different occasions. These
types of series of interactions with eminent
personalities form various national and
international institution have been an
impetus for KSL to reach its zenith of
recognition as a prominent legal institution
in Nepal and South Asian region.
We appreciate national and international
institutions such as Danish Institute
for Human Rights (DIHR), Denmark; The
Asia Foundation/Nepal; USAID/Nepal; DFID/Nepal
for their consistent cooperation and support
in development of school activities. Engagement
in constructive and academic cooperation
with Nepal Police, Judiciary, Attorney
General’s Office and Nepal Bar Association
and other institutions such as National
Police Academy, Judicial Academy, and
Judicial Service Training Centre as well
as many INGOs and NGOs has been momentum
to promote pragmatic legal education in
Nepal. |
