Issues of children have always
been the area of interest and
concern of KSL. In the past, the
School has conducted several research
and advocacy campaigns for the
protection and promotion of child
rights including a pioneer research
study on Juvenile Justice System
in Nepal. It has also introduced
courses on child rights, and juvenile
justice in university curriculum.
With such initiatives, the School
has brought out several issues
of children into discussion and
has been advocating for holistic
approach to intervene in the issues
of children.
To extend the same approach at
national up to regional level,
the School has initiated collaborative
effort of academic as well as
professional organizations to
work for the best interest and
rights of the children. This effort
has been materialized so far in
form of Child Rights Research
and Resource Center. Establishment
of this center could be taken
as an indicator of strong willingness
and commitment of organizations
seriously working in field of
child rights.
The Center aims to build a competent
rights regime in Nepal (and South
Asian region) by generating human
and intellectual resources pertaining
to child rights, development and
psychology and hence promoting
child rights culture. The Center
is the outcome of the commitment
of different like-minded institutions
to work as joint venture to protect
and promote child rights and access
to justice. Save the Children
Norway, Save the Children Sweden,
UNICEF, Tdh Nepal, CeLRRd deserves
credit for this important mission.
Their moral, financial and logistic
support boosted KSL's strength
in initiating this challenging
yet benign mission.
The Center has shouldered itself
with broad long term and short
term objectives. It intends to
carry out continuous research
study on diverse issues of children;
review of domestic and regional
legal frameworks and law enforcement
situation; lobbying with the concern
stakeholders for the child friendly
justice system and diversion scheme;
build coordination among agencies
working in the related field to
name the major few activities
under short term objectives. In
a long run, the centers intends
to strengthen legal aid to the
needy child and serve as regional
information clearing house as
well as institution to academically
and professionally build capacity
of child rights professionals,
workers, researchers, activists
and law enforcement agents.
We confidently hold the belief
to receive consistent support
and cooperation from every individual
and institution concern and are
hopeful to successfully materialize
our objectives.
Best,
