The
center was established in the year 2004
(with an initial title, Center for Women
Studies and Resource Development) in order
to carry out academic and research activities
of the LL.M Human Rights and Gender Justice
Program.

Days Global Activism Against Violence
Against Women
Recalling the 16 Days Global Activism
Against Violence Against Women from 25th
November to 10th December, the center
continued its celebration organizing various
innovative programs to enhance the campaign
against gender based violence in the country.
Voicing the major theme of ‘Gender
Dimension of Conflict’, the activism
started from 25th November 05 with an
official inauguration of the program on
26th November at KSL Conference Hall.
The session was held under chairmanship
of Prof. Madhav Prasad Acharya, Professor
Incharge of KSL, while Chief Guest was
Prof. Dr. Nomita Aggarwal, Dean, Faculty
of Law, Delhi University. The program
was followed by the theme presentation
on “Gender Dimension of Conflict”
by Assoc. Prof. Geeta Pathak Sangroula
and 16 presentations by students on different
issues of violence against women.
Celebration
of International Human Rights Day
The center celebrated the International
Human Rights Day on 10th December at the
occasion of closing ceremony of the 16
days activism against violence against
women. In the program, Assoc. Prof. Geeta
Pathak Sangroula presented unanimous commitment
to eliminate gender based violence in
the community and in the nation at large
respecting values of human rights and
dignity on behalf of KSL members. The
celebration continued by the students’
above mentioned research presentations;
photographic presentations depicting different
themes of human rights and its violation;
and poem recitation focusing on the particular
subject issue. The declaration to conduct
moot court competition among KSL students
on violence against women to conduct next
16 days activism was also announced at
the same occasion.
The program was held under chairmanship
of Assoc. Prof. Yubaraj Sangroula and
Mrs. Madhuri Singh, Development Program
Specialist, Anti-Trafficking and Child
Labor, USAID/Nepal. Ms. Singh acted as
the Chief Guest at the program.
Celebration
of International Breast Feeding Week
The center initiated the activism to celebrate
International Breast Feeding Week from
1st to 7th August in order to raise awareness
on importance of breast feeding and protection
and promotion of women and children’s
human rights. LL.B students conducted
research during the week on different
aspect of breast feeding and made presentations.
The areas of research covered, breast-feeding
as a right of the child to live. Likewise
case studies and Supreme Court decisions
on the cases related to breast feeding,
related national and international laws,
and market survey of ‘breast-milk
as a substitute food’ were also
discussed.
Seminar
on Social Aspect of Legal Dimension of
HIV/AIDS and Concern of Human Rights
The center in cooperation with Conscious
Media organized the one day seminar on
Social Aspect of Legal Dimension of HIV/AIDS
and Concern of Human Rights as to celebrate
the international HIV/AIDS day. Ms. Reena
Pathak, and Mr. Ramsharan Pokharel, students
of LL.B 5th year presented papers on legal
dimension of HIV/AIDS and the concern
of human rights, and the social aspect
of HIV/AIDS respectively. Megha Raj Sharma,
Lecturer, Nepal Law Campus, Mr. Kiran
Pokharel, Conscious Media Forum, Nepal,
Assoc. Prof. Yubaraj Sangroula discussed
the other concealed scenario and global
and national politics of HIV/AIDS.
Functioning
of Victim’s Mobile Desk
The 16 Days program announced the formation
and operation of Victim’s Mobile
Desk in Victims Legal Aid Clinic in order
to address the interest of students to
enhance their theoretical learning by
the practical performance. LL.B students
in coordination of legal aid lawyers are
working in the Mobile Desk. This has been
an effective teaching mechanism to develop
the communitarian lawyers. Participation
in First Henry Dunant Memorial Regional
Moot Court Competition for South Asia
Under the Coach ship of Assoc. Prof. Geeta
Pathak Sangroula, Mr. Ramesh Parajuli,
Ms. Sadhana Ghimire, students of LL.M
and Ms. Reena Pathak, student of LL.B
participated in the First Henry Dunant
Memorial Regional Moot Court Competition
for South Asia held at New Delhi on 14th
to 15th October 2005 organized by the
Indian Society of International Law (ISIL)
and International Committee of the Red
Cross (ICRC). Law students from India,
Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal participated
in the competition. Ms. Pathak was adjudged
Best Researcher and awarded a Gold Medal
and Certificate.
Teachers
Training on International Humanitarian
Laws
A one day teachers training on International
Humanitarian Laws (IHL) was organized
by the center in cooperation with ICRC/Nepal.
The main motive of the program was to
facilitate KSL teaching faculties to built
understanding on different dimensions
of humanitarian laws. Mr. Larry Maybee,
Regional Legal Advisor, South Asia, ICRC
acted as Resource Person for the program.
Accompanying Mr. Maybee were Mr. Giuseppe
Pogliari, Communication Delegate and Mr.
Krishna Chalise, ICRC/Nepal. The program
was facilitated by Assoc. Prof. Geeta
Pathak Sangroula.

Asian Region as well as universities
abroad.
- Conduct Quiz and Debate contest
for the students on related areas
of Human Rights, Gender Justice and
Humanitarian Laws.
- Building awareness and sensitization
among the persons related to academic
and non academic sections on Human
Rights and Gender issues.
